July is Disability Pride Month!  To celebrate, the Disability Resource Group, a City of Madison staff affinity group, invites you to an in-person screening of Crip Camp followed by a hybrid discussion.   This event is sponsored by the Department of Civil Rights and open to all city staff and the public.

About the Film: Crip Camp shows us how a group of young teenagers reclaimed the slur “crip” for themselves, showcasing their resistance, pride, and identity. But what does it actually mean and who can say it? Join the conversation to learn more from people leading the charge of the disability rights movement.  https://cripcamp.com

Meet the Discussion Moderators:

Helen Rottier is a PhD Candidate in Disability Studies at the University of Illinois Chicago. Her research and practice focuses on disabled knowledge production and the experiences of disabled students, staff, and faculty in post-secondary education settings. She is a white, autistic, mad, disabled person living in Madison with her fiancé.

Kate Moran has been a fat activist, a disability Advocate and an out lesbian for over forty years, each of those identities inform the others. While not at Crip Camp, Kate did briefly live on a disabled lesbian land collective in the early 80s.
